Strategy Formulation

MART has been providing strategic solutions to many developmental projects in India and neighbouring countries. Our focus has been to provide market driven strategies for sustainable livelihood promotion. Our capability on research enables us to formulate effective strategy to address the needs of the project and the client institution. Our major strategies are

Livelihood and Micro Enterprise Promotion
NABARD faced the challenge of taking millions of SHG members from savings to income generation. MART was invited to offer a solution. We used the 3M Strategy to conceptualize and develop a Micro Enterprise Promotion project through a step by step approach to map the area, identify key activities, launch them among SHGs and provide hand-holding support to 14 NGOs across 10 states. A series of workshops and training programmes were conducted to equip NGO staff with proper knowledge.

We have provided similar strategic and technical supports to CARE’s CREDIT and CASHE projects.

Market Access and Development
Market access and development are critical for creating sustainable livelihoods for rural poor. Rather than a supply-oriented approach we take a Go-to-Market approach.

Gramshree Mela: Market for handloom, handicrafts and other products made by the poor is largely in urban areas. A decade and half ago our founder started ‘Gramshree’ melas on behalf of CAPART for marketing rural products in urban areas. Over 300 melas have been held in 60 cities benefiting 100,000 producers and registering a sale of over Rs. 500 million.

Rural HaatRural Haats: Rural Haats (weekly markets) are the socio-economic nerve center for rural people. On behalf of Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, MART undertook a first ever comprehensive study of haats in India. MART’s pioneering work with Rural Haats has helped strengthen existing haats, upscale several into full fledged wholesale markets and create new haats, which have enabled villagers in remote parts of the country, to access markets for their produce and products. These haat related strategies have been offered to WORLP, MP-DPIP, APRLP, and Rajasthan DPIP projects..

Collective marketing by village level groups: Tribal economies depend on NTFP and agri produce, but often the locals do not get best value for their produce due to a number of intermediaries in the value chain. To address this issue MART has conceptualized and created a simple-yet-robust step by step marketing approach by empowering village based group such as SHGs and CIGs to collectively manage marketing activities. The strategy has been implemented in WORLP and OTELP projects and covers six tribal districts of Orissa. Read More...PDF file

Public Private Partnership

He is a pioneer in creating winning PPP models He has been sensitizing both the sectors through a series of workshops on the subject.

All our livelihood projects make the effort of building partnerships with corporate, SME and other private players.
